Increasing Public Resources

Goal

3. Expand the number of people at all ages who perform community service, especially for our schools, after-school programs, and people in need.

Key Resources

United Way- United Way web page devoted to volunteering. Includes a form to volunteer online.

Philadelphia Cares-Organization devoted to recruiting volunteers from companies and the community to work in neighborhoods, schools, and human service organizations. Especially strong in connections to area businesses.

Martin Luther King Day of Service-Philadelphia's pioneering community involvement program for Martin Luther King's Birthday, involving thousands of people throughout the Delaware Valley and in other Pennsylvania communities in service projects reflecting the priorities of Martin Luther King. The 11th King Day of Service will take place on January 16th, 2006.

Manna-MANNA's meals are prepared and delivered thanks to the caring commitment of more than 1,000 volunteers annually. Contributing an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 hours of uncompensated service each year to MANNA's kitchen, client delivery routes, administrative offices, and fundraising activities, MANNA volunteers represent a mosaic of caring citizens

PennServe-The Governors Office of Citizen Source, to educate, enlist, and engage Pennsylvanians in the essence of our participatory democracy-citizen service. PennServe offers small grants for targeted community service projects.
