Goal

1. Strengthen human relations, promote harmony, and improve the condition of all racial, ethnic, religious and economic groups in the community, within the framework of civic values set forth in the Preamble to the Constitution: to establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

Philadelphia Human Relations Commission-cPhiladelphia's historic commission created to combat racial prejudice and to promote community between racial, ethnic, and religious groups.

Neighborhood Social Contracts --The Institute for the Study of Civic Values has been helping neighborhood groups, the City of Philadelphia, and the School District negotiate social contracts that define mutual responsibility for meeting shared goals. We use the Preamble to the Constitution to define the civic values behind these social contracts. It has been a powerful tool for bringing diverse groups together.

NAACP-The Philadelphia branch of the NAACP advances the interests of the Afro-American community in Philadelphia.

Hispanic Clergy- Philadelphia's Focuses on Issues of Concern to the Latino community.

Asian Americans United-Advocacy and youth-oriented organization serving the Asian American community in Philadelphia.

Nationalities Service Center-An organization devoted to helping immigrants and refugees participate in American society by protecting their legal rights, promoting self-sufficiency, eliminating barriers caused by cultural difference, and promoting public awareness of the benefits of diversity.

Gay and Lesbian Task Force- A civil rights organization devoted to protecting gay and lesbian residents of Philadelphia from discrimination and violence.
 

Faith Based Civic Values

Faith Based Institutions and Organizations-Links to the community outreach of eligious denominations and institutions in Philadelphia

Catholic Charities-An expression of the charitable works of the local Catholic Church.

Metropolitan Christian Council-The Council seeks a "transformation of public life consistent with the loving purposes and righteousness of God." Areas of concern include public education, community revitalization and welfare reform.

Jewish Community Relations Council-Organization devoted to promoting Jewish involvement in the larger community.

Friends Yearly Meeting-The web site links to the wide range of peace and justice groups sponsored by the Friends.

Economic Justice

Philadelphia Unemployment Project- Group fights for higher wages and benefits for low-income workers and people on welfare.

Campaign for Working Families-Organization that works to insure that low income employees take full advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

ACORN-Organization fighting for economic justice for low income residents of Philadelphia and nationally.

Project HOME-The mission of Project H.O.M.E. is to empower persons to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, to address structural causes of poverty, and to enable all of us to attain our fullest potential as individuals and as members of the broader society.
